Books that have impacted my life

Obviously there is no book like the Bible. It is God’s perfect, inspired Word. It has impacted my life in an incomparable way. But there have been other timely books that have made a great impact on my life. Here are just a few in no particular order.

1. Conformed to His Image by Ken Boa. This book was a real eye-opener. I read it while doing a class in college. It lays out the different ways in which men have tried to explain sanctification – the process of being conformed to Christ. It is more of a textbook but definitely worth your time to read.

2. How To Prepare Sermons by William Evans. This one I put down simply because it was the first book I read on how preaching. It’s a short and simple read for young preachers. You can probably find a free kindle copy if you look hard enough.

3. Sowing and Reaping by D.L. Moody. I am not even sure if this qualifies as a book. It’s another short read about the powerful principle of sowing and reaping from Galatians 6:7. It helps drive home the sobering point that each and every day we are sowing seeds whether we like it or not. It requires one to examine the kind of seed one is putting in the ground of their life. Is it fleshly seed or spiritual seed?

Develop a discipline to read good books. Proverbs 19:27 says, “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” In other words, cut out the junk. Cut out the music, t.v., books, articles and videos that cause you to err from truth, wisdom and real knowledge. Cut the junk out of your life and fill it with some good books. These are just a few suggestions.
